Productive weekend - Tuottelias viikonloppu

I had a really nice weekend with my parents at our summer cottage. Among other things I did some sewing, some knitting and some yarn buing. The cats hate being in the car, but love staying at the cottage, staring at the birds outside the kitchen window and climbing to all possible ( and sometimes impossible) places.

Our cottage is located near a small town called Uusikaupunki or New Town in English. There's a great little yarn store. They sold some older skeins of Garnstudio's Silke-Tweed yarn with just five euros per 50g/200m skein. I got a cardigan's worth of burgundy coloured yarn and one skein of greenish grey, wich compliments the red very nicely. I'm so in love with the yarn. The tweedy colours with little speckles of other colours and the texture of it. Silke-Tweed is 52% silk and 48% wool.

As planned, I sew myself a needlecase. The final result is great but I suck at sewing. Big time. I actually broke three sewing machine needles while struggling with the thing. The needlecase seems practical enough and I still like the fabric a lot. Now I just have to organize all my needles in it.


For weekend knitting I had brought my Herringbone gloves, which are still missing three fingers. No progress on them though, because my attention was elsewhere. My mom gave me this very fine, plant dyed wool yarn in six vibrant colours. She had bought the yarn for embroidery, but then never got around to it. I knit 1,5 stripy fingerless mittens from the yarn. My 3mm needles were way too big, but they were the only ones I had with me. There is enough yarn for a secon pair and I'm thinking doubled yarn could be the way to go. I have to finish the first pair before thinking too much about that. And the Herringbone gloves. And the Silke-Tweed cardigan. And..

Olipa leppoisa viikonloppu mökkeilemässä vanhempien kanssa. Aika kului muun muassa ommellessa, kutoessa ja lankaostoksilla. Kissat inhoaa autoilua, mutta tykkäävät mökkeilystä. Ne tuijottelee keittiön ikkunan ulkopuolella olevan lintulaudan trafiikkia silmä kovana ja kiipeilevät kaikkiin mahdollisiin ja aika mahdottomiinkin paikkoihin.


Mökki on lähellä Uuttakaupunkia ja me käytiin ruokaostosten lomassa tietysti hiukan lankakaupassakin. Siellä oli jotain vanhempia vyyhtejä Garnstudion Silke-Tweed lankaa myynnissä viidellä eurolla 50g/200m vyyhdeissä. Ostin viininpunertavaa lankaa villatakin tarpeisiin ja yhden vihertävän harmaan vyyhdin siihen korostamaan syvää punaista väriä. Lanka on ihan ihanaa, tweed-väritys pienine värikkäinen tilppeineen ja se miltä lanka tuntuu. Silke-Tweed on 52% silkkiä ja 48% villaa.

Ompelin tänään puikkokotelon, kuten olin suunnitellutkin. Lopputuloksesta tuli hieno vaikka olenkin ihan toivottoman surkea ompelemaan. Onnistuin tuhoamaan kolme ompelukoneen neulaa taistellessani sen vehkeen kanssa. Puikkokotelo vaikuttaa kuitenkin ihan kätevältä ja kangas on edelleenkin ihan lemppareitani. Nyt pitäisi vielä järjestellä puikot ja tilpehöörit kotelon sisälle.

Otin viikolopun kutomisiksi mukaan kalanruotosormikkaat, joista uupui kolme sormea. Ne sormet uupuu edelleen sillä sukkapuikkojen huomio siirtyi toisaalle. Sain äidiltä ohuen ohutta, kasvivärjättyä villalankaa kuudessa kauniissa värissä. Äippä oli suunnitellut sitä johonkin kirjontatyöhön joka oli syystä tai toisesta jäänyt tekemättä. Kudoin langoista 1,5 raitaista sormetonta hansikasta. 3mm puikot olivat langalle ihan liian isot, mutta muita ei ollut tullut mukaan. Lankaa on jäljellä riittävästi toiseen pariin ja langan tuplaaminen voisi olla hyvä idea. Ennen ajatuksen sen kummempaa kehittelyä pitänee saada ensimmäisetkin valmiiksi. Ja kalanruotohanskat.
