Made by Kaisa - Kaisan tekemä


I ordered these ribbon tags which say Kaisan tekemä, Made by Kaisa in Finnish. I knit a lot of things for friends and family and I think it's a nice idea to put my own label on them. The labels are grey with red text. They were ordered online from a Finnish company, which doesn't deliver outside Finland.

The mushroom dyeing course, that I mentioned before, was last Tuesday. It was very interesting and I ended up with some nice light orange yarn. I will write a more detailed post about mushroom dyeing, when I'll find the time.


I have a new project on my needles. The Diamond Fantasy Scarf by Sivia Harding. I'm knitting it with Hjerte 4-ply sock yarn in a purple colourway. It's a rather affordable yarn and the colour is lovely. The first picture shows my progress better and the other one the true colour of my yarn. I really like the way it's turning out. I've seen some gorgeous finished ones like Kris's and Cara's.


Today was the first day of snow this fall. Big, vet and heavy snowflakes. Trees are beautiful with all that sticky snow on them, but otherwise it's nasty since everything gets so wet. I should change the winter tyres to my bike to keep me from falling over. It's also getting darker and darker every day. It means that I have to start thinking about when to take photos, since using a flash results in distorted colours and ugly pictures. Tomorrow it will be November. Where has all that time gone?

Tilailin tällaisia nauhamerkkejä joissa lukee Kaisan tekemä. Kudon ja muutenkin askartelen paljon asioita muille kuin itselleni ja on kiva ajatus jättää niihin oma merkki. Nauha on harmaata ja teksti punaisella. Idean nappasin Sisäisestä villapaidasta ja nauhat tilasin täältä.

Sienikurssi, jonka mainitsin aikaisemmin, oli viime tiistaina. Opin siellä kaikenlaista kiinnostavaa ja värjäsin oranssinsävyistä lankaa. Kirjoitan aiheesta yksityiskohtaisemman postauksen jahka kerkeän.


Puikoilla on taas uusi projekti. Sivia Hardinging Diamond Fantasy -huivi. Lankana Hjerte neljäsäikeinen sukkalanka violetin kirjavana. Lanka ei ollut kamalan kallista ja tykkään väristä, joka ei ole liian riemunkirjava. Ylemmästä kuvasta näkee paremmin sen missä mennään ja alemmassa kuvassa langan väri toistuu aidompana. Toistaiseksi ainakin olen tyytyväinen. Olen nähnyt muutaman kauniin valmiin Diamond fantasyn, kuten vaikka Caran ja Krisin.

Tänään satoi ensilumi. Sellaisina raskaina, suurina ja märkinä hiutaleina. Kaunistahan se on kun puiden oksistot on valkoisenaan tahmeasta suojalumesta, mutta muuten tällainen märkä sää ei ole kauhean mukavaa. Pitäisi vaihtaa pyörään nastarenkaat. Pimeämpääkin on päivä päivältä. Täytyy alkaa suunnitella milloin valokuvansa tänne blogiinkin napsii. Salama kun vääristää värit ja tekee kaikenlaisia ikävän teräviä varjoja. Huomenna alkaa marraskuu. Mihin aika onkaan taas hujahtanut?

My new toy - Uusi lelu


I got a new toy today, an i-cord doll. I'm planning on making meters and meters of i-cord with it. There were some cool i-cord creations in this fall's Marie Claire Idées. I know I'm not supposed to read magazines in the book store... But I don't speak a word of French and didn't want to buy the magazine just because of the pretty pictures. Black sheep did however get it, and shows bits of it on her blog, including a picture of some darling vintage i-cord dolls. So much nicer than my weirdly grinning yellow catepillar i-cord doll from Prym. I really want to make that bag Black sheep mentions. The one knit entirely from ready i-cord. Even if it means that I have to make kilometers of that stuff.

Hankin tänään uuden lelun, sellaisen nauhanuken. Sillä aion väkerrellä neulenauhaa metri toisen perään. Tämän syksyn Marie Claire Idées -lehdessä oli esitelty hauskoja käyttötapoja i-cord -nauhalle. Tiedän kyllä ettei lehtiä saisi lukea kirjakaupassa vaan vasta kotona... Mutku en osaa sanaakaan ranskaa, enkä raaskinut ostaa lehteä vain kauniiden kuvien takia. Musta lammas sen sijaan on lehden ostanut, ja esittelee siitä herkkupaloja blogissaan. Huomioikaa erityisesti ne kauniit vanhat nauhanuket. Ne on paljon kivempia kuin tämä minun Prym-merkkinen virnistelevä, keltainen, jaokkeellinen toukkani. Haluaisin kovasti tehdä Mustan lampaan mainitseman laukun. Sen, joka on kokonaan kudottu valmiista i-cord -nauhasta. Vaikka se sitten tarkoittaisikin nauhan vääntämistä kilometritolkulla.

As promised, here are some pictures of me sporting the Sunflower tam. I think I just might make one of these for my self too, in some other color. Maybe in some tweedy yarn? And by the way, the mushroom I'm holding is Amanita battarrae.

Kuten tuli lupailtua, tässä on pari kuvaa minusta Auringonkukkabaretti päässä. Saattaisin hyvinkin tarvita ihan itsellekin tällaisen jonkun toisen värisenä. Ehkä jostain mukavan pilkkuisesta tweed-langasta nykerrettynä? Sieni on muuten kehäkärpässieni (Amanita battarrae).

Sunflower tam - Auringonkukkabaretti


I made another hat using a pattern from the wonderful Knitting nature book. This time around it's the Sunflower tam. This is a present for a family friend and distant relative, who will be turning 75 soon. She wears brown a lot, so the colour choise was easy. The auburn shade sort of reminds me of the 70's colour schemes, whether that's a good thing or not. The yarn was much thinner than the one used in the book, so I knit the tam with two strands held together. I didn't check my gauge, and it must have been way off too, but I sort of adjusted to it as I went. I have knit hats with the same 40cm circular needle before and sort of know what it "feels" like when there are enough stitches cast on. With this yarn it was 80 stitches, even though the pattern calls for 90 st. Then I just added the missing ten stitches later on. The size of the tam's top isn't that crucial as long as it stays on your head. I blocked the tam lightly trying to avoid stretching the ribbing. There might be some photos of me wearing it coming up, but at the moment I don't feel particularly photogenic. A red and runny nose has never made anyone prettier. Yes, it's the flu season again.

Yarn: Gjestal Maija, two 50g skeins, colour 254, two strands held together
Needles: 6mm dpn's and 6mm, 40cm circular
Modifications: Cast on 80st (90st called for) and added them after the ribbing. Knit the knit stiches in the ribbing through the back loop.

Kudoin jo toisen päähineen mahtavasta Knitting nature -kirjasta. Tällä kertaa tartuin auringonkukkabaretin ohjeeseen. Se tulee 75-vuotislahjaksi perhetutulle, joka on myös hiukan sukuakin. Lahjan saaja pukeutuu usein ruskeaan, joten värivalinta oli helppo. Punaruskea sävy tuo jotenkin mieleen 70-luvun väriskaalaat, onko se sitten hyvä juttu tai ei. Lanka oli melkoisesti ohuempaa kuin ohjeessa käytetty, joten kudoin sitä tuplattuna. Mitään mallitilkkua en tehnyt, ja neuletiheys olikin ihan varmasti poskellaan, mutta sopeuduin siihen mennessä. Olen kutonut eräänkin pipon sillä samalla pyöröllä, joten tiedän miltä silloin "tuntuu" kun silmukoita on luotu tarpeeksi. Tällä kertaa se oli 80 silmukkaa, kun ohjessa sanottiin 90. Lisäilin sitten puuttuvat silmukat joustimen jälkeen ja muita muutoksia en silmukkamäärissä tehnytkään. Baretin laen koolla kun ei ole niin suurta merkitystä, kunhan päässä pysyy. Pingotin baretin kevyesti muotoonsa ja yritin välttää joustimen venäyttämistä. Kuvia minusta baretti päässä saattaa olla tulollaan, mutta juuri nyt ei ole kovinkaan fotogeeninen olo. Punainen ja vuotava nenä ei ole koskaan kaunistanut ketään. Kyllä, flunssakausi on täällä taas.
